Effective September 11, 2005, Frazee Recruiting Consultants (FRC) acquired the assets of Accustaff-BR. All services previously supplied by Accustaff will be performed by FRC. The transition to FRC will be a transparent one for both our clients and our employees. We are excited about this business growth and look forward to continuing and improving our business relationships.

Today, less than two months since Hurricane Katrina impacted all of our lives, the employment picture in Baton Rouge has drastically changed. As reflected on job boards and classified advertising, the number of employment opportunities has increased up to tenfold depending on the particular skill area. While this expansion may create opportunities it may likely result in unexpected challenges for businesses such as increased turnover and retention-related issues.

Demand has led to new compensation levels as well as increased overtime. These two factors are luring employees to abandon current positions. Frazee is focused on continuing quality services to our loyal clients while expanding our client base among area newcomers. We are recommending that each of our clients pay special attention to existing employee conditions in order to maximize retention. Below we have listed a variety of retention-based initiatives that you may want to consider to keep your valuable employees happy:

1. Celebrate
Whether your sales department has just exceeded its quota, a star employee has just remained loyal another year, or even if it is someone's birthday... have fun! A treat to lunch or an employee "get-together" at the end of the month can make all the difference between happy employees and high employee turnover.

2. Compliment
Recognizing a job well done is always free... and it can go a long way.

3. Communicate
Ask for feedback and constructive criticism. This applies to all employees, staff and superiors alike. Group discussions, brief one-on-one meetings, or suggestion boxes can be positive methods to effectively improve a work environment. Good communication also retains a sense of closeness... an employee is a person and not a number.

4. Be Creative
Just because many businesses do not execute retention based initiatives, that does not mean you have to follow the same path. Try new ideas... and you just might make work fun again! The goal is not to spend an unreasonable amount of money or make employees uncomfortable. Always remember that happy and loyal employees make a successful business!
