With ten great years at our Eastgate office, our growth finds us looking for a new location. Owner Marianne Frazee has chosen the prestigious Corporate Boulevard area for our new headquarters. After consulting Mike DePaul, CFO of LUBA, it was an easy decision to relocate to their facilities on Energy Drive. Our new larger home will be situated on the first floor, making it easy for us to accommodate all aspects of the business. Thanks to everyone who has been such an important part of our success! Our transition is expected to be finalized Fall 2005. Be sure to read our next newsletter for an update on our progress!

You've finally completed years of studying, research, essays and exams. Congratulations 2005 college graduates on a job well done!

Now the most important work begins--finding a job. And, the return of a 1990's trend just may be your answer. An increasing number of organizations are reviving an economically beneficial trend dubbed "entry-level". It is estimated that 80%-90% of large businesses are expected to hire recent college graduates this summer. Statistics show the top sectors for entry-level jobs are: business, biology, physical science, sales, administrative/support systems, customer service/call center services, advertising, marketing, retail and healthcare.

You need confidence to pass a job interview. The best way to do that is to be prepared.

It can be very helpful (and profitable) to do your homework, and there's no such thing as being over-prepared. Be prepared to communicate what you could offer a business if you were hired, as well as what your best qualities are. Also, what would your ideal position be? Your qualifications and interests should be taken into consideration when deciding on your field of work, whether this will be your first job or your next job. Finally, we all know that in the end it can boil down to money. What are your salary requirements? Are you over-qualified or under-qualified for the dollar amount you have in mind? An interviewer can ask many questions, and they will always vary from business to business. Be sure to remember these key points during an interview: be yourself, be realistic, be confident and be prepared!

Computers seem to be everywhere you look, and you couldn't survive in business without them if you tried. Frankly we're amazed that a few still resist. Don't.

Keeping yourself up to date in the computer world could improve job security, confidence and demonstrate a willingness to learn. Americans are becoming more dependent on the internet with e-mail, "virtual" conferences and websites becoming the norm. Also, prepare to embrace word processing, spreadsheet and presentation programs which provide basic communications throughout many organizations. Below we've assembled a few statistics to show how Louisiana rates in the high-tech world:

  • At present, over half (57%) of Americans over age 25 who are employed use a computer at work!
  • By the year 2010, jobs in the computer and mathematical fields are expected to increase by 67%.
  • Louisiana is 34th in the U.S. for overall number of high-tech workers and 45th for average high-tech wage.
  • Two percent (2%) of all private sector workers in Louisiana are employed by high-tech firms.
